It‘s a question of short weight. On March 15 of this year we discovered that a shipment of fibre powder material aboard the M.S. Carriban Queen unloaded at the port of Shanghai was short-weighted by 30 tons,

Thus, you see, we do not feel the short weight is our responsibility.

LI:Yes. but surely you would not expect the ship owner to weight each bag when loading the vessel.

As I understand the term "clean" when applied to a bill of lading. it refers to goods "in apparent good order and condition" that is to say, the ship's master merely oberves the shipment in a general way.

PARKER: That s true, Therefore, it would seem to us that somewhere between our weighting and your weighting damage occurred, either during unloading or in transit.

LI:I wouldn't have thought so. We gave the shipment close examination and found all the bags in good condition and the weight of each bag clearly marked"50 kilos net weight".
